Nichole's ASB in Ottawa

During Spring Break 2014, I had the privilege of participating in Alternative Spring Break with the Student Experience Office! There were many trips going to places such as Guatemala and Nicaragua, however my group stayed right here in Ottawa! I had a week packed with volunteer work spanning from education around youth homelessness to better understanding drug use and awareness. We also visited local homeless shelters and got to know some of the residents while making food to serve!

From learning about and volunteering at women's shelters to getting to know our city in more refined detail, ASB opened my eyes to so many ways that we can help our community and those in it! Everyone needs a helping hand every once in a while and volunteering around the city helped me to realize that a little bit can go a long way!

ASB has changed my life thus far and allowed me to bring my love for volunteering back to my sisters to share! My experiences taught me a lot about the city that I live in and allowed me to give back in ways I wasn't able to before I also made 11 amazing friends that I still keep in contact with and who made my experience one of the most amazing I've ever had! Overall, I had the time of my life and I cannot wait to keep getting involved. - Nichole Vine
